A Ukrainian ethnomusicologist and musician living in Canada, Marichka has, since the Maidan, devoted her voice, songs and knowledge of Ukrainian traditions to the struggle for freedom. In conversation with Dīvs Reiznieks, the former member of “Божичі”, “Lemon Bucket Orkestra” and “Balaklava Blues” talks about her current project “Daughters of Donbas”, which reached No. 1 on the World Music Charts Europe in April 2026, Ukrainian children abducted by russia, her experience on the front line as a volunteer combat medic, and why Ukrainian folk songs seem dangerous to the russian regime.
